Welcome to Bairnsdale Railway Yard in HO Scale

Welcome to my new blog. Here I will be posting updates to my brand new model railway venture. I am going to be creating a version of the Bairnsdale (Vic) railway yards. At this stage I am going to be creating a blend of all the good parts that this yard was. At the present it is only used as passenger station and a truck freight transfer area.

I will include the old turntable and subsequent sidings, a representation of the continuation of the line to Orbost and Bairnsdale wharf line, the timber sidings and crane, goods sheds, yard offices and finally the stock yards.

I will run a variety of motive power and rolling stock over the layout. I intend to run the all V/line Liveried Diesels, with some VR (mainly T's and B's), VR rail tractors, maybe a V/Locity or two and regular steam locomotives (mainly J class).

Basically I will try to build my 'ideal' Bairnsdale. All the buildings, track and infrastructure will be accurately represented. The only differences from being historically accurate will be the variety of locomotives and rolling stock. For example; I have the current V/Line Passenger Series 3 N Class 460. It has never seen a turntable at Bairnsdale but could find itself in one of those sidings. The other  variance that comes to mind in my projects infancy is the signalling system. Semaphore or the current L.E.D. system. I'm not sure just yet. It will probably lead to the L.E.D. version.

To next time.
